Tie-dye Demonstration Speech
June 11, 2009
The demonstration speeches was amusing and most educational. Watching everyone give there demo speeches was great. We got to eat an drink new things, learn how to make and create !
I never thought going into public speaking I would be learning how to make a great speech and bake cookies, pop pop corn, brownies, cakes, cutting hair and even learn how to groom and show a cow. It was so hard for me to find something to demonstrate. Everyone had such creative and fun ideas. I didn’t know how I was going to get anything similar. It was kind of depressing at first because I started thinking I had no good talents. First, I thought about making smoothies but I didn’t have a blender. Then, I thought about hemp jewelry but it would take too long to demonstrate and would probably be to little to see. I thought about doing a hair cut with tattoo tremors and I got really excited because it was something I would be good at and it’s a really neat process. Then, the day of my speech my client called and said he couldn’t make it in. I wanted to cry. But then, my aunt said, “Why don’t you tie-die it’s different bright and fun for anyone”!! I was excited to give my speech because I know exactly what I was doing. I had been doing it for years.
I started out with some color dye for clothes putting the dye in little bottles like perm or hair color bottles with a little hole in the top so you could direct where the color goes. I twisted the shirt up and put tight rubber bands around the shirt. In those places, the shirt would remain white. Near the end of my speech I untied my shirt to reveal a beautiful tie-dyed design!!
I was so happy with my speech and I learned if you just have fun with your speech it will turn out as well as you thought it would !!

I have always wanted to learn how to tye-dye shirts but i have never found anything. When i was younger i did a science fair project with tye-dye, but it dealt with paper and which colors would run up the paper the fastest. I forget everything about it though cause it was only in the 6th grade. If you could though send me something on how to tye-dye so maybe i could try it out. Thanks Elysia
