Computers? Ha! I’d Rather use Pen and Paper.

July 6, 2009

Picture 7Does anyone else out there have a hard time with computers? I have the worst time with them, yes I can type but then what after that? You always here people talking about “those young kids and their computers” well I am only twenty two years old and I would rather use pen and paper!!! There are all these chat rooms and this and that and honestly the only reason I am even aware of half of them is my eleven year old brother and sister !!

They can’t believe that I don’t know how to do half of the things on a computer that they can, which in turn helps their arguments that once you hit twenty your old in there eyes! That is crazy, how can twenty be old? Any way back to our “technology” I also do not understand what the deal is with all of the single letter words? or LOL okay Laugh Out Loud is that so complicated that it really needs to be abbreviated? I don’t get it ! I don’t understand the need for all of the “chat rooms”, I mean aren’t you told growing up not to talk to strangers on the internet? They can tell you they are this or that and be something or some one completely different , but now parents are helping their children figure out how to “chat” online .. I am so Confused and Don’t even get me started on TEXTING!!!!

I agree I prefer to use pen and paper too because i’m not very proficient at using a computer either. But look at the bright side of this class your learning something new and having fun doing it to.

If you keep at it, you’ll soon be wondering what you were ever worried about. I used to say that I would never use a computer for writng because using pen and paper was an essential part of the creative process. As I got used to typing on a computer at work, I decided taht maybe a computer was usefult for documents for work, but remained convinced that I would never be able to use a computer for any kind of creative writing. As I became more used to typing documents, I gradually left pen and paper behind (for the most part, anyway; sometimes it still helps a piece of writing to feel more personal if it’s composed by hand) in favor of my trusty word processor. It’s faster, easier to edit, and it doesn’t leave my writing hand all cramped if I end up writing for a long time.

The same holds true for most other applications on the computer. If you take it easy at first and ease yourself into it, you’re going to be fine. You’ll feel more and more at ease as you get used to using everything from internet searches to instant messagers. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll even be ready to tackle texting…

Just don’t give up because it’s frustrating at first. In the end it’ll be worth it because you’ll find that computers can make things a lot easier once you get used to them.
