Procrastination
July 9, 2009
I’m organized, but I have a terrible habit that has plagued me since childhood: I procrastinate. Even if I have a week or more to complete a task, I tend to end up doing the required reading and assignments the day before they’re due. I’m trying to break myself of this tendency, but old habits die hard!
This is an especially important goal this quarter for two reasons. The first reason is that I’m going to have to speak in front of people in speech class, and I’ll need to get my presentation done in time for me to practice before I have to face a room full of people. I really don’t need to make an already stressful situation more difficult because I didn’t prepare well enough. Also, my classmates deserve my best effort if they’re going to have to suffer through me giving a presentation.
The second reason that it is importmant for me to stop procrastinating is that I’m taking my first online class this quarter. I’ve already been up against the the submission deadline in there, and I’m determined not to put myself in that situation again simply because I waited too long to begin an assignment or because I waited until 5:45 to complete an assessment that was due by 6:00. Without the classroom sessions to remind me when things are due and to keep me on track, I can’t wait till the last minute to do things or something will not get done because it got lost in the shuffle when I put it off to do later.
I’m sure it will be a bit of a struggle, but I’m convinced that, if I put my mind to it, I can overcome my urge to put things off. I’m going to start first thing tomorrow…

I’ve taken quite a bit of online classes Bryan and I know where your coming from. You can get in an awful position if you procrastinate.
I think we will all do fine on our next speeches. I’ll be practicing until Monday!
