Great Experience!

Wow, what can I say! Coming into this class, I thought it was going to be the worst class ever and I was dreading to take it. I’ve never liked public speaking but I had to take the class to graduate. I always thought no one would want to hear what I had to say or just wouldn’t care.  On the first day, I was really nervous but at the end of the day Candee made everything seem like it was going to be okay. Not only that, everyone in the class seemed like they were just as nervous as me. The classes and speeches flew by however, and it turned out to be my favorite class. I was actually looking forward to going to class and hearing what everyone had to say. The demonstration speeches were great, especially when we got to eat :) . Everyone in the class was amazing and everyone was really supportive. We all grew as a class, and in my opinion everyone became great speakers by the end of the quarter. The last speech I got to do with Shayla, and we did our speech on organ donation. I was honestly sad that it was our last class, and I would recommend it to anybody. Candee was very helpful and was always making you feel at ease. The feedback forms also helped a lot and I think it helped me improve as a speaker. All in all, I am really glad I took this class and I also met a lot of wonderful people. I am glad I got to share this experience with you all!

Stepped Out of my Box and Gained Confidence

For my visual reflection, I decided to make a box, because in the beginning I didn’t want to take this class, but I had to graduate. I was kinda in a box to say the least and never liked to get up and talk in front of people.  Now however, I am so glad that I took it! Speech class is a lot of fun and like in my reflection it has allowed me to , “step out of my box and gain confidence.” I’m no longer that nervous to get up there and give my speech. My class has helped out a lot and everyone is very supportive.

The demonstration speeches were a lot of fun and I have learned a lot. Everyone did very well. For my demonstration speech I did chocolate graduation caps since graduation is coming up. You take a miniature Reese cup and flip it upside down. You then take a dab of peanut butter and place it on top of that. Next, you take a chocolate covered graham cracker and place it on top of the Reese cup. You then put another dab of peanut butter on top of that. And last you take a fruit roll-up and cut a piece of and place it on top of the graham cracker as a tassel. It is a really quick and easy graduation party dessert.

I am really looking forward to everyone’s last speech and excited to do mine with Shayla!

Remembrance

Two down, two more to go! I made it through my informative speech! I was extremely nervous, going on the first day, but everyone was very supportive and helped me get through it.  It helps if you just breathe!

My speech was about my great grandma who had dementia, and how it effected her and my family. It was not only difficult on her, but on my family and me as well. One of her favorite things to do was sew, and she made all of the grandkids baby blankets. I brought mine into the class to show. Eventually she forgot how to sew, but I take pride in the fact that I still have something in remembrance of her, along with something she loved to do.

I had no intention of crying, but somehow I ended up doing just that. Everyone was still very supportive, however, and now I’m not as nervous anymore about giving speeches. I’m starting to like this class more and more everyday! Everyone’s speeches were very interesting and everyone did a great job! I am really looking forward to hearing everyone’s demonstration speeches!

Slow and Steady Wins The Race!

My first speech is done, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Before it was my time to go I really wasn’t that nervous. I went up to introduce Shayla and it went fine, so I thought I would be fine. However, when I was next I started to get the sweaty hands and the pounding heart but I went up there and took a deep breathe. When I started off I was doing really good, nice and slow like I had worked on, however the more I read the faster I got, thinking to myself wow I am going way too slow and it feels like I have been up here forever I need to speed up! WRONG! All my comments I got back told me I needed to Slow Down! So, that is something I still need to work on, but I think it’s something that I can do. I just need to relax more and slow down so people can understand me.

Everybody’s speeches were very interesting, and I enjoyed listening to all of them. I am excited for the upcoming speeches and what lies ahead!

Confidence Booster

I have always been shy and never liked to get up in front of the class to talk. No matter what the subject was, I would still always get that feeling, when you get all hot and sweaty, and your heart is pounding, thinking why do I have to do this? However, I have always gotten through it, I am just not very good at it.

I decided to step out on a limb and take this speech class, not only to get better at speaking in front of people but to also gain confidence. This is still really nerve-racking for me, but I know that I am not the only one who feels this way. We have had a couple of classes now and have been getting in groups to talk in front of the class. It hasn’t been as bad as what I thought, although I know when I to get up in front of everyone by myself it is going to be a whole different story. As everyone talked about the class on the first day, everyone seemed to have the same problem with nerves. I think with the help of my classmates and Candee, I can get through it and become better at public speaking. I am excited and I hope after the class is over, I will have more confidence and not be nervous to speak in front of people anymore.
