We finally got one speech down, but we got another coming up.  The next speech we have to give is the demonstrative speech.  I am anxious to see what eveyone is going to bring to the table.  I hope a lot of people demonstrate something that has to do with food so that I can eat.  The bad news is that I don’t know what I am going to do yet.  Hopefully, I think of something soon.  Good luck to all the speakers with their next speeches.

I finally did it. I think I did a good job but I was nervous. I was more nervous this time because you have to look up at your audience the whole time. I picked a topic that was very personal because i knew so much about it, I actually lived it for a couple of years.  I am very happy that I had a teacher that was kind enough to take her time to help me organize my speech. She took an hour of her time to listen to my past.

I liked everyone’s speech. They were very interesting. I wish I had the confidence that Drew had. He walked up there with nothing and just starting talking about softball.

I feel like I have learned a lot about how to present and speak in front of people. I have noticed that everyone else in the class is also learning and getting better at speaking in front of the class.

This Wednesday we have demonstrative speeches due. From what I’ve heard, we’re all going to have some pretty radically different speeches. I look forward to seeing what everyone’s good at doing. =]

Maybe I’ll learn how to do some new things? That’d be pretty cool. =]

Hopefully my speech can teach y’all how to do something new as well.
And even if it doesn’t, I still hope I’ll have fun giving the speech, and that everyone will have fun listening. Because that’s really what this class has become: Fun-ducational. =D

I think I did better with this one, but I still need to relax a lot more. I think everyone did great on their speeches and hopefully I get as confident as most of the students are. Michael don’t be so hard on yourself, I think you did awesome. This class has made me realize that I just can’t set back – I’ve got to let my voice be heard. Thank you Candee for giving me the knowledge to know this.

Ok well we had yet another awesome and exciting class! I was so bummed missing Monday’s speeches! Trust me would have rather had to give a speech for the entire length of class than be in the hospital, lol!

Few mentions on the speeches from Wednesday…. Zach, you did a wonderful job and your stature and confidence has at least doubled since the first one. You did a topic you truly do love, enjoy, and knew much about! Patty…I too am guilty of messing with phone while driving even though using an ear piece, and very guilty of texting in truck or on motorcycle…and after what you showed WILL stop. It was all I could do to not get teary seeing the child wanting her parents to wake and a sibling that did not make it either. Please post the link to that video so those of us it truly did impact we can share it as well with others, maybe it will save someone’s life…..

I truly do love this class and appreciate everyone’s advice, support, and group fun! It is awesome to have such an interesting and truly caring teacher! Oh and Candee, I told Mike what you said when you brought him up to your hubby….he laughed so hard I almost lost it 

Just had to add one more comment though on the responses I received after my speech, lol….
All of the comments did much to bring some things to my attention and a few got a good giggle and smile. Yes I was not prepared since had nothing to work with or from until Wednesday, lol, I know I was guilty of using the podium as a hold up, but still didn’t feel great and I know it surely did not help my presentation. Who ever put ‘I sound like your mother’, no you do not, but that comment even though completely correct surely gave me a much needed giggle.   And for all of the ‘good job for winging it’ responses THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! I was spooked doing so but felt I needed to anyway, we had an assignment due and needed to present, in my opinion for me, needed to present regardless of why I was not ready.

I have been sick like really sick. It started with a sore throat and progressed to a fever, sick all over and etc. Work sent me home early Monday evening because I had no energy and I felt horrible. I caught bugs from my co-worker that was sick with the flu and my grandmother who had some kind of stomach virus. I was confined to my bed. I was surrounded by Kleenex, half eaten chicken soup, and the trash can. I thought I could go to work Wednesday only to be sent home again, because I couldn’t stand the smell of food. I went home and slept until this morning.

I really hate that I missed everybody’s speeches. I know that I still have mine to do and I am extremely nervous to do it. I am probably the last one to do it too. My speech is about the reasons why you shouldn’t shoplift. I am doing this topic because a friend (whose name will never be exposed) came to me for advice and for a shoulder to cry on. Her experience and plus all of the research I did for her; has inspired me to use the topic for my informative speech for our speech class. I can’t wait to see all of you guys again. I know all of you are waiting for my speech.

My second speech was about the band “The Used”. I feel that I didn’t do as well as I thought, partly because I got nervous. Either I was nervous or I was really cold, because I was shaking. I really don’t have a reason to be nervous, so I’m not exactly sure what went on. Maybe I was excited, because when I think about Bert McCracken, I get little baby butterflies in my tummy. Haha. But seriously, I’m not upset, I just think I could have been more organized. I’m not the kind of person who can do things on the spot. I freeze usually. That’s why I don’t get excited about the end of the class when we have to say what we learned or what we liked. I’m like……”Uh buhh…”

I believe that everyone did an amazing job. I have learned so much about everyone by just hearing their speeches. I didn’t know that Zach was a fisher. That’s pretty cool. I found out what his truck looks like this afternoon, too. So if you want to leave a love note on it, come to me, and I’ll show you where to put it.

Patty’s speech had me crying inside. I couldn’t imagine anything like that happening to me or my friends, or anyone. I don’t think I’m going to text and drive anymore. But I’m not going to promise that. I’m just going to try. And I really didn’t do it a lot in the first place. I have a touch screen phone now, so it’s almost impossible to do.

I have a hard time remembering EVERYONES’ speeches. But I don’t think I had a favorite. They were all equally wonderful. I’m excited to see what happens next.

I have NO CLUE what I want to do my next speech on…

Well everyone (most of us) are done and hopefully those who are left see that it is a breeze. I will admit halfway through my speech I started to get a little emotional and then flubbed a little. I ended up going off my structure a little, but I made it through.

As for my fellow students in speech I am not going to name everyone by name and just say that as a collective group we are awesome. Since we are all so different we get to hear so many different topics and opinions. I think this makes for a great class. I do have a couple of honorable mentions (in my own opinion of course). Tiree you were great, it was very heartfelt and knowledgable. It is nice to know that there are some CNA’s out there who really care about the patient. I believe that the patient always come first. There are some people out there who believe that their loved one is more important than anyone else’s, but they will survive.

Michael, quit beating yourself up. We all make mistakes and think we suck, but that is why we are here to learn how to do this stuff better. And I won’t get mad at you for making me stand in the cold or rain, that is why we have coats and umbrellas.

Ok I think I am going to stop cause I could just praise everyone. We all did great and I can’t wait till demonstration time is here. Although I still have to think of something to do, I have several ideas……NOT.

First, I want to thank everyone for the nice comments. Patty, I really appreciate what you had to say, that was very nice. I feel better now that I am finished, however, I feel a little like Michael, I was so nervous I stumbled over some of my words and my mouth was so dry I felt like I had cotton in it. I wish I could have heard Michael’s speech. I bet he did well, he did great on his reading. I know this was different though because we could not read it, that’s what made me so nervous.

You know, I can’t image why I was so nervous because I’ve been doing CNA work forever, it should have just flowed right out of my mouth. But I still found myself wanting to look down at my paper. I can’t wait to hear Jackie’s speech, it is really personal for her and I admire her for wanting to share these experiences with everyone. She’s become a great friend to me since starting college, and I think a lot of her, especially since she doesn’t mind that I am old enough to be her mom.

I thought everyone did a wonderful job Monday on their speeches, I thought Gabrielle had a very good topic, I have a friend who is Gay, and he is the best person. Crystal your speech on alcohol abuse really hit home for me, since someone I care a lot about is letting this controlling disease slowly destroy their life. Frances you delivered a heart warming speech. Working with children has to be rewarding. Loved your speech! Christy, I know you told me you thought your speech was not that great, but I enjoyed learning about the band you admire, also you always add humor which makes it even more interesting. Drew your just a pro!

Well, we are on are way to doing the next speech, The demonstrative speech. I am still trying to decide what I am going to do, I have a few ideas. I think this one will be very interesting.

Candee, I also want to thank you for making this class so much fun, and just letting everyone be their self. I really enjoy this class. You do a great job!!

When you miss one class, you’ve missed a lot. I was reading the blogs that were posted after last Wed. class, and I think I missed some awesome speeches. But, I was there for this Mon. class, and I was so impressed with the wide range of topics covered.

Let me stop here and tell you I’m busted! I don’t have my seating chart with me so I might put the wrong names with the speeches. But, I really found Bridget’s information on fructose corn syrup fascinating because I like to cook healthy. Tiree’s piece on being a CNA was wonderful. Girl, you got SOUL. And we’ve seen it both times you have spoken. You do a good job.
Christy I have actually heard 2 of the songs you played. Only because my roommate is 21 and she listens to that kind of music. I thought it was a fun topic. You have good presence and you made it fun.

Drew, you can take us all out to the ballgame! I had no clue old guys could make that much money playing ball. You might see me hangin at the ball fields next year!

I have read a few articles on children and horses and the positive effects from putting the two together. Thank you Frances for passing on a little more info on that topic. It was great.
Everyone did such a nice job, I really enjoy this class. Thank you Candee for providing us with such a relaxed environment to grow in.
