Confidence Is The Key

When I was younger I used to be very nervous when it came to talking to people.  Whether it was speaking somewhere in public or just meeting new people, I wasn’t very comfortable with it.  As I was getting into high school I got better at talking to new people, but speaking still wasn’t my strong point and I was still a bit intimidated by it.  I began to realize that as I grew more confident with myself as a person through high school, I grew more confident with speaking to others. When I was in high school I was in a traveling musical called “Dead Serious…About Life” and that is one of the main things that helped my confidence to grow. With traveling I met many new people and the musical itself helped me to get used to speaking on stage.  I just graduated this past year in 2009 and I can now say that I am confident and like who I am and I am no longer nervous when it comes to meeting new people. In fact, I love to meet new people!

As I take this speech class, I hope to grow more in my confidence with my speaking in front of a group of people and also grow even more confident with who I am as an individual.  I think confidence is the key to being a good public speaker and I know that I have it in me to be a great public speaker, I just have to “find my voice.”
