Fear? What Fear?

In our last class, when we presented our posters, a lot of people talked about how they are uncomfortable or unskilled at speaking in front of a group–while speaking (incredibly well) in front of a group.

Most people said that they were nervous, yet it really didn’t show. The presentations proved to me that when you are determined to do something, like overcoming a fear, you can do it. It’s as simple as that. We are days away from our first big speeches and weeks from becoming experienced public speakers, but we’ve already taken the huge step of deciding to do this.

Ironically, I like public speaking, but I’m an introverted person. It’s easy for me to spend ten weeks in a class without learning everyone’s names–but Candee won’t let us get away with that!! And I’m grateful for that; connecting with all of you will be the real blessing of speech class.

And I think we all deserve more credit than we give ourselves.

    Hi Tarina,

You are learning a very valuable lesson at a very young age. I certainly wished I had learned it sooner.

Here’s the lesson, “What you feel (fright, nervousness, etc.) others can’t see. That is, until it is mentioned. Chances are if you don’t say you are nervous, no one will know it.

    Good luck,
    Jeff
