A Visual Reflection

When Candee assigned the visual reflection homework I wasn’t sure where I would go with it.  As I thought about ideas and how I felt before starting speech class and then how I felt after three speeches into it, I knew I must reflect the before and after of my experience.

I wanted to show the dark outlook I had by making black the first color you see.  The sunshine (me) is only half way visible from behind that podium.  I am looking up the mountain at Public Speaking feeling so intimidated.  And, don’t forget those shaky hands!  They liked to shake in the beginning.  I put a window on the door looking into my speech class, it showed a bit of what may be inside.  But first, you had to build the courage to open it!

We all found that courage and we all opened that door together.

I chose white for a bright inside color because once inside of my speech class, I wanted everything to come to life!  Just like Candee’s speech class.  We all come alive!  I have to say, this has been the best class I have EVER taken.  As much as I procrastinated and was intimidated, I feel silly now…….even though it will take many more speeches to get to where one could say they feel comfortable, I have already come a long way and best of all, I wasn’t alone!  Each of my wonderful classmates came with me, guided by a wonderful teacher, both of which made it so much easier.  Well, after that rant, back to my reflection!

The door is now open and one can see how far we have come.  The sun is shining high and bright, no podium blocking him from the room.  He exudes confidence like never before.  He has locked his fear in a cage and gathered his composure, for he has found his voice!  The mountain has been climbed and with the climb came progress.  I am now looking out the window with a positive outlook!

I hope I didn’t bore anyone as I stepped into my reflection.  I hope everyone can feel how much they have progressed and continue to achieve!  Great class, great instructor, and great classmates!

Mike, your visual reflection was outstanding, and so were your speeches so far 🙂 Having bright personalities in the class makes public speaking much easier.

I thought your visual reflection was very clever! You put so much work into it and it really payed off and it was so fun to look!! I thought the way you incorperated all the stuff we have learned and the before and after perspectives were very cool!

I’m not in your speech class but I do have to admit it was the most creative poster I’ve seen. The way we gain our way to the top. TRIUMPH! This journey has been incredible for each one of us.

Your poster was amazing and very creative! I would’ve never come up with anything like that! I think it was a true reflection of most of the people in our class.
