What I thought I Knew about Group Speaking

July 11, 2010 at 4:11 pm 3 comments

I gave my 1st class speech. I really didn’t think I would be so nervous. I’ve been speaking in front of a group of people every day for the past 10 yrs. The group usually consist of different but mostly the same people that I worked with on a day-to-day basis. I really didn’t think that I was going to have the frog in my throat or the jittery voice, boy was I wrong. I got up there to do my speech and all nervous conditions took over.

I chewed my gum, bit my lip. was sweating and lost eye contact with my audience, what a disaster. I have 3 more in class speeches to give and I hope all that I have mentioned, improves or better yet goes away. My next speech is an informative topic. I haven’t yet decided on a topic but I have several interesting ones to choose from.

Julie I believe that we are our own worse critic. I did not see all of those things take place in your speech. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Many times we have expectations and don’t realize how well we did because we are so focus on what we THINK we did not do. Relax and be Confident in who you are. I am looking forward to your next speech.
