my audience loves me

There was much informative information I attained from chapters 1, 2, and 3 of The Art of Public Speaking book.  The first and most important thing was that EVERYONE IS NERVOUS.  I can be extremely nervous at times.  My voice may squeak or I may sweat my butt off, but knowing I’m not the only one is helpful.  Second is that to be an effective speaker you must also be an effective listener.  I for one can pretend to listen.  I probably did it to you on accident.  I find it interesting that the logic behind being both an effective speaker and listener is sound.  If you understand the “do’s and don’ts” of speaking then I can get the listeners’ attention.  Also if I listen effectively I could receive that same respect back when I speak or I can take note of different methods that speakers use (good or bad) and use them to my advantage when I am the speaker.  And thirdly, note taking hit home with me (in this case, college).  I try to write every little detail that the speaker says.  Just as the book mentioned you will find yourself in a bind trying to keep up with the speaker and missing out on important information when all you had to do was just take note of the important information and leave all the small details out.  And, of course, that always happen though.

Your right about everyone is nervous. I was very nervous on the first day of class, but I’m getting better. I’m sure by the end of this class the fear of speaking in front of people will go away.
