Delivering a good speech

September 30, 2010 at 10:44 am 1 comment

Chapter 12 covered a lot of questions I had about speaking in public and also revealed how to deliver a good speech. I have made it known that I am very nervous about getting up in front of a group of people and speaking, the speeches that I have given have been like a manuscript reading, my face down in my paper and reading word from word. I think that if I allow myself more time in preparing and practice the speech then I will be able to give an extemporaneous speech which is my goal. I never thought about standing in front of a mirror and practice giving a speech but this makes a lot of sense. I am definitely going to try this out and also recording myself even though that may be a bad idea just because I don’t like the way my voice sounds on a recording. My biggest challenge will be speaking to the class and not at the class. Eye contact is a very difficult thing for me, I usually find one person out of a class and focus there instead of the whole class. Delivering a good speech is going to be challenging for me altogether but I am planning ahead and going to do my best and hopefully all of the advice that our speech book gives will be a key answer for me.

Practicing in front of mirror does sometimes help from time to time but it can be distracting ( i think). If you every need a voice recorder, I have one and not mind letting people borrow it. The to class and at the class is challege i believe for every one since they are verbal responding and also the eye contract. To be honest i don`t like making eye contact even when it`s one on one.
