Our First Speeches

I thought the first day of our readings went very well. Everyone that got to do theirs picked an interesting topic and did a great job. It was nice to find out more about the people in the class and the things they are interested in. I especially liked the original poems by Judith and thought Brittany’s story was well written and presented in a way that captured the audience. I know that controlling nerves has been a big topic in the class, but I thought everyone did really well overcoming their nervousness. I also liked the comment sheets we did for each other. It is obviously nice to hear positive things about something you did, but it is helpful to hear what others think you can improve on as well. I know that I need to work on slowing down more and taking more pauses to connect with the audience. I hope that in my future speeches this will be easier when I do not have to read exactly from a book. It was nice reading word for word, however, because I did not have to memorize anything or be afraid that I would forget something. I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the class read tomorrow and getting to know them more.
