The First Speech

The first speech we did was not exactly a speech but it was a reading. My reading was a poem from a girl who I was dating at the time and I still like to read her poems today. That poem in particular really spoke to me though because it was about love and I personally like a little romance every now and then. I felt kind of afraid to do that reading though because I knew it wouldn’t be long enough unless I took a lot of long pauses. I also knew that there was nothing else I would have rather read so I tried my best to make it work. When I finished the poem I was sure that it wasn’t long enough and that I had screwed up my timing but I felt confident that I had a good enough delivery and tone to get a good grade for it. Almost all of my peer review sheets had something about my voice on it and that was a really big confidence boost because I was stressing about whether everybody could tell my voice was shaking because I was so nervous. All in all I think it was a good experience though.
