Set Your Nerves Aside and Go For It!

Some people are terrified when it comes time to give a speech and I will admit that I dislike giving a speech as well. However, if you step back and think about how much speech can affect society then you will realize how important that it really is. Think about going into a job interview and being nervous and shaking and not being able to talk clearly, do you think you will end up with the job? Doubtful. At one point or another everyone has to stand up and set their nerves aside and just go for it and say whatever it is they have to say.

My biggest problem in high school when I would have to give a speech was nervousness. We have already went over a chapter that dealt with nervousness and just by reading the chapter I picked up several ways to calm myself down and how to turn that bad nervousness into a positive nervousness. If these techniques work for me then I know that they will work for anyone but there is no telling how effective they are until I give my first speech.

Have you ever wandered off in your head while someone was giving a speech on something that wasn’t interesting to you? If you have how do you know that it wasn’t interesting if you didn’t pay attention to the speaker in the first place? Listening is very important in speech because what you hear can also help you on your next speech. If you notice how someone if giving their speech and it sounds good then you could learn from them just by listening to how they are delivering their speech. You can always learn something even if it’s just by listening to someone give a speech.
