Before I started this class I was afraid to speak in front of people because of my great fear of public speaking. Then after being in this class for a few days I have started to break out of my shell and I have started talking to people in my class and with the projects we have been doing to present in front of the class. These projects are used to help us break our bad habits that we have like leaning on the podium, not making eye contact with people, and increasing our volume so people can hear us.

The first big thing that I have learned to do in this class is how to listen properly. The keys of how I learned to listen properly is first you should have nothing distracting you like a cell phone, a ipod, a laptop, or just talking to other people that is sitting beside you. The next thing that you should do while you are listening to the person speak is listen to some of the key points they are trying to make and not there whole speech because you might fall asleep because you don’t need to hear everything to know what they are talking about.

The next big thing with speaking is having good communication skills because with speaking in class, you need to be able to speak clearly, fluently, so that people can understand you. This class so far has started to become like my family because, everyone that is in this class is here to help anybody. We listen and are here to help each and every one of us get better at speaking, talking in front of the class, and just all together making us better speakers for the future and when we get new jobs that require us to have good speaking skills.

Blake, I agree with you about this class breaking old habits and learning new ones. I too, have learned alot about presenting myself more professionally. Your speeches have been interesting, especially the one about your Grandpa.
